My Future
My fellow classmates,
Everyone of us is thinking about the future. What is mine? I have decided become a middle school teacher . Does it sound surprising?
I had his dream when I was only a child. I love children . I don’t think to deal with them all years round is just wasting time . On the contrary , to me it would mean happiness . As we all can see, teachers are badly needed in our country, but not many of us want to become teachers. One of the main reasons for this is that teachers work too hard but get too little . In spite of that, I’m determined to devote all my life to the cause of education.

21. Britain’s oldest man made his first visit to London yesterday at the age of 110. Mr. John Evans had never found the time or the money – to make the trip from his house near Swansea. But, when British Rail offered him an all-expenses-paid birthday trip to the capital, he just could not refuse.
Until yesterday he had never been far from home, except for one trip to Aberdeen. Mr. Evans, who spent 60 years working as a miner in South Wales, almost made the journey to London once before, at the turn of the century. “There was a trip to the White City but it was ten shillings (1 shilling =1/20 pound) return from Swansea – too much I thought. All my money went to the family then, “he said.
During the next two days Mr. Evans will be taken on a whistle–stop tour of London to see the sights. Top of his list is a visit to the Houses of Parliament (国会).
The only arrangement he does not care for is the wheelchair provided to move him about if he gets tired. “I don’t like the chair business – people will so think I am getting old,” he said.
His secret for a long and healthy life has been well publicized–no alcohol, no cigarette and no angry. Before setting off from Swansea with his 76-year-old son, Amwel, he quipped, “I’m glad to see they’ve given me a return ticket. “

22. It is becoming an increasingly common sight to see toddlers(学步的小孩)and even babies playing with their parents’ smartphones. Yet, this seemingly harmless action could deprive young children of their sleep.
A survey found that for every hour young children spend using touchscreens, they lose 16 minutes of sleep. Sleep is thought to play a key role in young children’s development. It can also affect their achievements in studies in later life.
Lead researcher, Dr Tim Smith, said, “These results show that it is easy for babies and toddlers to use touchscreens such as smartphones. And this has something to do with reduced sleep.”
An online UK survey of 715 families showed that 75 percent of toddlers aged between six months and three years use a touchscreen every day. At six to 11 months, 51 percent play with a smartphone daily. This rose to 92 percent in children aged 25 to 36 months. On average, children use smartphones for around 25 minutes every day, which results in six minutes of lost sleep.
The connection between smartphone use and lack of sleep is unclear, but this may be due to the children becoming overly stimulated(过度刺激). Yet, earlier research has shown that babies who often use touchscreens are quicker to develop movement skills. These include picking up and dropping toys, grasping objects with a finger and thumb, and passing on objects from one hand to another.
Dr Smith said, “We need to understand how to use touchscreens better. We should find a way to reduce their bad effects on young children.”
Experts said that babies and toddlers who spent more time using a touchscreen did tend to sleep less. This is probably because the touchscreen use directly affects sleep. But there are many possible reasons for that. Maybe the parents of toddlers who already sleep less are more likely to let their children use touchscreens, with the thought that it might calm the toddlers.
