The ITB 2009 was dominated by the global financial and economic pared to the ITB 2008,when global warming was a major issue, one could almost get the impression that climate change and resource conservation were problems of the past and no longer of ,climate change is not going reality, the opposite is the studies indicate that things have gotten worse than predicted by most Arctic is warming up faster than anticipated, with the Greenland ice shield being of particular a consequence of this, sea levels are also rising the financial crisis may soon be over, the impacts of climate change will stay with humanity for the centuries e(Stock 2009).
1 Background:The Interrelationship Between Tourism and Climate Change
Worldwide, tourism is responsible for about 5%of energy-related CO2 emissions (UNWTO/UNEP 2008).While this share may appear to be relatively small,it es more significant paring it with other sectors or ,tourism’s share of CO2 emissions equals the one of the chemical tourism were a country,it would range in 5th place after the USA,China,Russia and India and well ahead of major polluters such as Japan and Germany(WRI 2005).However,this amount is unevenly distributed among tourism subsystems and types of %of overall emissions are attributed to transportation,of which air transport accounts for 40%and automobile traffic for 32%.The share of modation is 21%(ibid.;see Figure 1).This means that emissions of aviation-dependent long-haul tourism are substantially higher per travel Germany, for example, domestic tourism represents only %of national emissions(with a transportation share of 62%),while on intercontinental trips taken by Germans, their flights alone account for over 90%of the overall tr
