Leak Rate Prediction of Plunger Seal Structure Used in Spacecrafts

Abstract
The plunger seal structure, widely used in a variety of pipe systems in the spacecraft, was physically mod-
eled and theoretically calculated, on the basis of Roth leak rate model, to understand its sealing mechanisms and to quan-
titatively evaluate its leak rate. The impacts of various negative factors, such as the surface roughness, surface scratches
and mechanical damages of the Viton O-Ring, on the sealing capability of the plunger seal structure were tentatively eva-l
uated. A novel analytical formula was derived to predict the leak rate of the plunger seal structure. The calculated results
agree fairly well with the experimental data.

摘要
柱塞密封结构是飞船管路系统常用的一种密封结构形式, 故研究柱塞密封结构的密封性能具有重要的工程意义。
文中, 通过对柱塞密封结构密封机理的分析, 给出了一个计算其漏率的理论公式, 并与试验数据进行了对比。研究结果表明:
该公式能较好地预估柱塞密封结构的漏率值。本文所得的结论可以为柱塞密封结构的设计提供理论参考依据。
