The demand for low-volume and high-ponent purchases in China is growing
rapidly driven in large part by the dramatic rise in domestic design activity. This growth is
driving suppliers – specifically catalog distributors – to develop new, diversified supply
services to meet the demand and increase market share.

shifting trends in demand and identifies the services required to satisfy the demand for
low-volume/high-mix purchase orders. The survey findings will help suppliers improve
their service offerings and develop China-focused strategies.
Survey Results: Diversifying demand for small order purchasing
The survey of over 600 qualified respondents found that prototyping and pilot production
topped the small-order purchasing, with, 72% and 28% of responses, respectively. The
more traditional demand for replacement parts and samples for academic research
accounted for 18% and 13%, respectively. And trailing, was the demand for MRO (10% )
and replenishment of production (9%).
Regarding the most frequently used channel for small-order purchases, catalog
distributors, franchised distributor and B2B websites were fairly evenly repre
