摘要
多媒体数据压缩技术的研究及其技术标准的制定是目前国际工业界和学术界普遍关心的一个热点问题,尤其是在网络和数字媒体产业迅速发展的今天,统一的技术标准的制定与实施显得尤为迫切。该技术在计算机、电信以及家用电器行业中有着广泛的应用,只有实现标准化,才能带动集成电路的大量生产,大幅度降低视频成本,解决不同厂家设备的通用性。人们一直认为MPEG的任务就是数据压缩,但事实上MPEG的任务除了压缩,更涉及媒体数据的采集、加工、存储、发行、传输、保护、等一系列技术标准的建立。目前正在制定的MPEG4、MPEG7和MPEG21将为多媒体数据压缩和基于内容检索的数据库应用提供一个更为通用的平台,必将对下一代视、音频系统和网络应用产生深远的影响。
凡事都讲究一个效益,所以本文主要研究MPEG标准的发展及其应用。本文首先对MPEG的标准进行定义并分析了其研究的意义;其次再对MPEG的各个标准进行了比较详细介绍及它们之间的对比,之后介绍了其的最新的发展及应用;最后以MPEG-21为例研究了MPEG的用法及在未来的发展,给人们带来意想不到的方面。

ABSTRACT
Multimedia pression technology research and technical standards is the international industry and academia a hot issue of concern, especially in work and the rapid development of digital media industry today, unified the formulation and implementation of technical standard is very important, because the technology puter, munications and household appliances industry has the widespread application, only realizes standardization, can help the mass production of integrated circuit, greatly reduce video cost, solve different manufacturer equipment versatile. However the MPEG task is far from limited pression, but involves media data acquisition, processing, storage, distribution, transmission, protection, the establishment of a series of technical standards. Currently MPEG7 and formulated MPEG4, MPEG21 will for multimedia content-based indexing pression and the database application provides a more general platform for the next generation, will visual, audio systems working applications have far-reaching effects.
All things are exquisite a benefit, so this paper mainly studies the development and application of MPEG. This paper firstly define the standard MPEG and analyzes the significance of research; Next to each standard MPEG again are detailed introduction and the contrast between them, and then introduces the latest development and applications.
