Element: Integration of Historic Buildings. The spatial
and visual integration of historic buildings within the
landscape zones define and give character to the
sequence of spaces.
Element: Vine wall. A vine wall provides a permeable
edge that is anic and highly structural to sep-
arate the public open space from the nonpublic areas
of the facility. With its prominent scale and
view/watershed integration, it acknowledges the
shared uses of the site.
Element: Paths. The series of pathways, shown in
Figure , provide continuous engagement with the
landscape and connection to the neighborhood.
View: Hilltop summit. From the summit of the hill one
is rewarded with a view of East Rock, a local natural
landmark that provided inspiration for the dramatic
manmade landform features of the site (see Figure
).
View: Pond. The culmination of the water path into a
large, open pond environment engages the user fully
in the hydrological emphasis of the site.
Figure Engagement Element: Pathways.
Figure Engagement Element: Hilltop Summit Regional Topographic Transect.
