Photovoltaic Market Presentation
Photovoltaic industry status
• The photovoltaic (PV) market is booming!
• Installations of PV cells and modules worldwide have grown
on average 39% annually since 1998
• In 2007 the PV industry had a total revenue of more than
EURO 13 billions
• The PV industry is investing heavily in new production
facilities and new technologies
• Politically support for the development of PV has lead to
promotional frameworks being used in a number of
countries such as Germany, Japan, Spain, Italy, France,
South Korea, USA, etc.

Advantages of PV technology
• Solar modules convert sunlight directly into DC
electricity
• The fuel is free
• There are no moving parts to wear out, break
down or replace
• Only minimum maintenance is required to keep
the system running for more than 25 years
• The system is modular and can be quickly
installed anywhere
• It produces no noise, harmful emissions or
polluting gases

Polysilicion
• The raw silicon used for production of polysilicion for the PV
industry is abundantly available worldwide
• 10 years ago 99% of the global production of polysilicion was
used in the semiconductor industry. In 2007 60% of the production
was used for manufacture of solar cells
• The dynamic development in the PV market has, however, led to
a shortage of polysilicion up to now
• Therefore many polysilicion customers have entered long-term
contracts with large advance payments, bank guarantees as well
as fixed prices and quantities
• The requirement for large advance payments and bank
guarantees has e standard trade conditions throughout the
