Foreword
As we approach a new millenium, transport of people and materials takes
on an even greater significance world-wide than it has in the immediate
past. The birth and evolution of railways during the last two centuries has
had an immeasurable influence on industrial, social and economic
development.
Engineers of all backgrounds and professional disciplines have played a
leading role in the development, operation and management of railways. In
future the contribution of railway engineers should be even more significant.
I am delighted to be able to write this foreword to Cliff t’s book.
