plete Subjects
The subject of a sentence is the
who or what
the sentence is about.
Let’s look at some sentences and see if we can identify the subject of the sentences.
First, let’s identify plete subject:
ALL the words that tell who or what
the sentence is about.
Four new frindles fell out of Nick’s backpack.
Four new frindles is plete subject
Now let’s identify the simple subject:
This is the noun the sentence is about
without any descriptive words.
Four new frindles fell out of Nick’s backpack.
frindles is the simple subject
Sometimes, the simple subject and
plete subject are the same thing.
Let’s look at an example.
Mrs. Granger enjoys using the dictionary.
Mrs. Granger is both the simple subject
and plete subject.
Ok, let’s have you try these sentences:
1. Thirty-five vocabulary words were assigned for homework.
Thirty-five vocabulary words is plete subject.
words is the simple subject.
2. Loud bird chirps were being called in the classroom.
Loud bird chirps is plete subject.
chirps is the simple subject.
