21.(6分)A seaside Long Island village on Saturday honored the memory of a girl whose message in a bottle was found after Superstorm Sandy, discovered by cleanup workers a dozen years after she threw it into the ocean.
A plate was placed on a rock near the bridge, where the bottle was discovered in December. It reads: “Be excellent to yourself dude(朋友),” the same message inside the bottle. The note, a line from the 1989 Keanu Reeves movie “Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure,” was written by Sidonie Fery and threw into the ocean inside a bottle. She died in 2010 at the age of 18 in a fall from a cliff(悬崖) in Switzerland.
The bottle only traveled a mile or two westward from where it was likely deposited to the location where cleanup workers found it. It was intermingled with broken clothes, boating equipment and a range of sea trash.
But because the note included the girl's New York City phone number, what otherwise would have been a worthless piece of trash became a priceless souvenir. Workers in Patchogue, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) east of Manhattan, called the number and returned the bottle to her mother, Mimi Fery.
Fery said she sobbed when she heard workers had found the bottle and was grateful to them. “It's unbelievable,” she said Saturday of the ceremony. “The town is amazing, my daughter was a lovely and lively person and very fun, she would do fun things. She always brought joy to everybody no matter how she felt.”
The plate also reads: “I learned that even though someone is very small they may have a big heart” and bears a photo of a smiling, young Sidonie along with the date the bottle was found: Dec. 6, 2012.

22.(8分) You’re so young right now, but I hope this letter will be helpful to you one day when you’re older. I feel it is my responsibility, as a mother of two little girls, to lead you down a path that is relatively healthy when it comes to beauty and self-image. In a lot of women’s eyes, I’ve probably already failed in this aspect due to a lot of pink Barbie dolls in Vera’s room right now.
But I will say this about Barbie dolls: I played with Barbie dolls for many years when I was growing up and here I have a healthy body and a positive image. I have a master’s degree, a successful career and a published book. If Barbie dolls were really so damaging to my femininity(女人气质) and self-image, I highly doubt whether I could list all of these achievements.
It’s hard for women not to worry about our weight or to wish we could afford more stylish clothes. It’s hard not to want someone else’s hair or eyelashes. We women go round and round in circles, holding hands and trying to be one another sometimes. The thing I’ll tell you is this: not even the prettiest of us feel settled. The girl you think looks the most perfect in all the world is probably the girl who wants to change herself more than anyone else.
Don’t let that message carry any weight within yourselves. You are not worthless. You are so full of love and light and you should let it shine through your every second. If someone pushes you down for standing tall then just push yourself back up and stand even taller, and know that the reason why they pushed you down in the first place is just that they’re scared. I want to tell you that I have never in my life felt more beautiful than when I have stood my tallest.
1、What does the author think about Barbie dolls?
A.They did no harm to her image. B.They enable her to achieve a lot.
C.They prevented her development. D.They contributed to her promotion.
2、What can we learn from the third paragraph?
A.It’s women’s nature to be envious. B.It’s easy to read women’s thoughts.
C.Women like to be close to each other. D.Women tend to pursue a perfect appearance.
3、What does the author suggest her daughters do?
A.Try to be the most beautiful. B.Stand tall with love and toughness.
C.Compare themselves with others to improve. D.Push others down on the way to be the tallest.
4、What’s the author’s purpose in writing the letter?
A.To tell her daughters what real beauty is. B.To warn her daughters of the trouble in life.
C.To share with her daughters all her experience. D.To persuade her daughters to follow her example.
23.(8分)Life hasn’t always been easy for Sareana Kimia, 16. Her parents split up when she was young, and she hasn’t seen her dad since she was l0. In June 2014, she and her mom, Shefali Gupta, found out that they would soon be evicted (逐出) from their home. Sareana knew that her mom had money problems.
Even before the eviction, Gupta had become very sad. Because she didn’t have health insurance, Gupta couldn’t get a doctor’s help for her emotional problems.
Sareana took charge of things at home. For example, she often cooked her family’s meals. When she and her mom were about to lose their home, it was Sareana who arranged a place for them to stay.
For years, Sareana had been an active volunteer with several organizations. She even started her own group, Youth for National Change. It works to support the rights of young people.
Sareana called a few adults she had worked with. After finding out about her situation, one couple opened their doors right away. But by August 2014, the couple no longer had room for Sareana and her mom. The two ended up living in their car. They didn’t want to go to a homeless shelter out of fear that they could be split up. Through it all, Sareana kept working on projects and studying. “At no point did I let what was going on change my daily routine,” she says.
Sareana is homeschooled online and goes to classes at a nearby college. Last fall, school bills began piling up. She had no way to pay them. A friend suggested that she try raising funds online. After a newspaper ran an article about Sareana, donations poured in-nearly $ 30,000! She paid for school and had enough money left to rent a small apartment. 24.(8分)My daughter Kelly is a cautious person. She needs to warm up situations, and is hesitant to try new things. When with close friends, she becomes a leader who laughs loudly and chants. “Girls rule, boys drool.” But when that comfort zone is not around her, she is shy and nervous.

We practiced transitions from swim to bike to run with her, we got all the equipment she’d need, and we kept talking about the race. But as we waited the two hours for the older kids to finish before her turn, she held my leg a little harder and told me she loved me a few too many times. She was nervous but trying
