Appeals Court to judge on The Appeals Court (TRF-4) is scheduled to review on 24 January the corruption conviction of
Lula’s case on 24 January former president Lula. If the conviction is upheld, according to law, then Lula would be out of the
presidential race. Lula was earlier found guilty of money laundering and passive corruption
charges by Judge Sergio Moro in an investigation related to the car wash scandal.
A panel of three judges will review Judge Moro’s decision. They will not only decide on the case
but also on the sentence. The Appeals Court’s decision would be made as follows: first, the
reporting judge (chosen to review Judge Moro’s decision) will speak and vote; second, the
reviewing judge will deliver his speech and vote; and finally, the third judge could give a final
comment and vote. The verdict would be announced the same day, though there is no set time.
