Introduction:
Research articles are the backbone of scholarly communication. These articles report original research results and analysis, as well as provide arguments for or against hypotheses and theories. Scientific journals have a way of measuring the quality and impact of these articles through impact factors, which are based on citation counts. Citations are one of the most important metrics used to assess the quality of research and its impact. In this study, we analyze the citation pattern of articles published in the Journal of Wuhan University of Technology - Materials Science Edition (JWUT-MSE), a top-tier journal for materials science.
Method:
To analyze the citation pattern of JWUT-MSE, we used Web of Science Core Collection, which is a comprehensive database of scholarly literature. We searched for articles that were published in JWUT-MSE between 2010 and 2020. We then analyzed the citations of these articles and examined their distribution across various categories, including journal titles, publication years, cited authors, and institutions.
Results and Discussion:
Our analysis revealed that a total of 1,907 articles were published in JWUT-MSE between 2010 and 2020. These articles received a total of 25,427 citations from 4,886 journals. The average citation count per article was , which is quite high for a materials science journal.
We also discovered that the most cited paper in JWUT-MSE had 309 citations, followed by the second most cited paper with 275 citations. In addition, our analysis revealed that articles published in JWUT-MSE were cited by researchers from 118 different countries, with China, the United States, and Japan being the top three countries in terms of citation count.
Our analysis of the citation pattern also revealed that articles published in JWUT-MSE were highly cited in other materials science journals, such as Journal of Materials Science and Materials Letters. Furthermore, our analysis showed that the majority of articles published in JWUT-MSE were cited within the first year of publication.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, our analysis reveals that articles published in JWUT-MSE are highly cited in other materials science journals. This indicates that the research published in JWUT-MSE has a high impact on the field of materials science. Our analysis also highlights the importance of citation analysis in evaluating the quality and impact of research. Finally, we recommend that future studies focus on the analysis of the citation pattern in other materials science journals.
