If you move to a new school, you’ll have to worry whether or not you’ll make friends. Here are some simple suggestions which help you make new friends a lot easier.
Try speaking to the people next to you. As they’re close by, it helps you to communicate with them first.
Have courage to speak to everyone in your class. You will probably stay with that class through your years at the new school, so it is very helpful if you get on well with them.
If you don’t have many friends in your class, try and make new friends in your subject lessons. You can also talk with them at lunchtime and after school.
Join a lunchtime or after-school club. You’ll get to meet kids of all years that way.
Ask your teacher to pair you with another pupil.
Use your celebrity(名人) status! Since you’re the new person, you’ll have gained celebrity status, which you can use for a couple of weeks. Talk to people, remember to smile and always be open and friendly. Listen carefully to what others have to say so as to make them feel important.
As you grow older, it’s natural to make new friends and sometimes that means
you grow apart from your old friends. So try and make time for all your friends. Why not introduce your different sets of friends so you can all go to the cinema or bowling(保龄球) together?
But what if a friendship group is pushing you out? If this is happening to you, try and ask one of your friends what is happening. If the whole group is leaving you out, try to find new people to spend time with at lunchtime.
According to the passage, moving to a new school is _______.
A. interesting B. exciting C. worrying D. boring
52. To make our classmates feel that they are important to us, we should ______.

A. To show how to get used to new school life.
B. To explain how to make new friends easily.
C. To encourage people to make new friends.
D. To introduce how to communicate with friends.

Have you ever wondered why birds sing? Maybe you thought that they were just happy. After all, you probably sing when you are happy.
Some scientists believe that birds do sing some of the time just because they are happy. However, they sing most of the time for a very different reason. Their singing is actually a warning to other birds to stay out of their territory.
Do you know what a “territory” is? A territory is an area that an animal, usually the male(雄性), claims (声称) as its own. Only he and his family are welcome there. No other families of the same animals are welcome. Your house is your territory where only your family and friends are welcome. If a stranger should enter your territory and threaten you, you might shout. Probably this would be enough to frighten him away.
If so, you have actually frightened the stranger away without having to fight him. A bird does the same thing. But he expects an outsider almost any time, especially at nesting (筑巢) season. So he is screaming all the time, whether he can see an outsider or not. This screaming is what we call a bird’s song, and it is usually enough to keep an outsider away.
54. Some scientists believe that most of the time bird’s singing is actually ________.
A. an expression of happiness B. a way of anger
C. an expression of warning D. a way of greeting
55. What is a bird’s “territory”?
A. A place where families of other animals are accepted.
B. A place where a bird may shout at the top of its voice.
C. An area for which birds fight against each other.
D. An area which a bird considers to be its own.
56. Why do birds keep on singing at nesting season?
A. Because they want to invite more friends.
B. Because their singing helps frighten outsiders away.
C. Because they want to find outsiders around.
D. Because their singing helps get rid of their fears.
57. What does the underlined word “screaming” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. 尖叫声 B. 令人惊愕的 C. 哭喊声 D. 令人害怕的

To travel around the world is the dream of many adventurous people. But very few people can afford a global tour because hotels, food and airplane tickets are too expensive. Some people, however, have thought of some ways to realize their dreams.
Laura Cody and Tanbay Theune, a couple from Britain, decided to travel around the world. They have found a good way to pay for their trips. They look after pets for rich house owners. In exchange, they can stay in the houses for free. They have looked after horses, cows, cats, dogs and fish. In two years, the couple has been to Australia, Germany, Spain and Italy. They have stayed in big cities and small villages. The home owners are usually very generous(慷慨) and have given them food, wine and day trips.
Another person who tries to realize her travel dream is photographer Rhiannon Taylor. She travels around the world to visit, review and take photos of the best hotels. She shares the places she stays in and the food she eats on the Internet with tens of thousands of followers.
With these ways of making money, traveling around the world is no longer a dream. More and more young people are thinking creatively to make their dream come true.
58. Why do most people feel hard to make their travel dream come true?
A. Because they can hardly find hotels.
