I never "had timc^ to volunteer, as it would take away from what I really needed to do. School and work took up a huge part of my time・ But I have had a passion for helping others. So I gave spare change to the homeless. I felt good.
At a point something changed. I was so tired of constantly seeing social media posts about people in need .It seemed as if all everyone was doing was hitting the share button, but no one was actually doing anything to make a real difference. I decided to look within myself to become more aware of what was important to me, and what made me happy・
It's funny how the universe places opportunities in your path when you commit to a new way of thinking. One day I came across Meals On Wheels of Tampa (MOWTampa). Since 1975, MOWTampa has been strengthening the community by caring for the aged and the disabled. This non-profit organization prepares its own food and relies on help from volunteers to deliver about 700 meals to our neighbors each day. Once I learned this, I knew I wanted to get involved.
On the third Saturday of every month, volunteers deliver food to recipients(领受者).I delivered my first MOWTampa meals about a year ago. Everyone I came into contact with that day was so grateful for the delivery. Smiles greeted me as I approached each door. Since my first delivery, I have continuously signed lip to deliver more meals!

Most people agree that honesty is a good thing. But does Mother Nature agree? Animals canft talk, but can they lie in other ways? Can they lie with their bodies and behavior? Animal experts may not call it lying, but they do agree that many animals, from birds to chimpanzees, behave dishonestly to fool other animals. Why? Dishonesty often helps them survive・
Many kinds of birds are very successful at fooling other animals・ For example, a bird called the plover sometimes pretends to be hurt in order to protect its young・ When a predator(彳昔食动 物)gets close to its nest, the plover leads the predator away from the nest. How? It pretends to have a broken wing. The predator follows the nhurtH adult, leaving the baby birds safe in the nest.
Another kind of bird, the scrub jay, buries its food so it always has something to eat. Scrub jays are also thieves. They watch where others bury their food and steal it. But clever scrub jays seem to know when a thief is watching them・ So they go back later, unbury the food, and bury it again somewhere else.
Birds called cuckoos have found a way to have babies without doing much work. How? They don't make nests. Instead, they get into other birds1 nests secretly. Then they lay their eggs and fly away・ When the baby birds come out, their adoptive parents feed them.
Chimpanzees, or chimps, can also be sneaky. After a fight, the losing chimp will give its hand to the other. When the winning chimp puts out its hand, too, the chimps are friendly again. But an animal expert once saw a losing chimp take the winner's hand and start fighting again.
Chimps are dishonest in other ways, too. When chimps find food that they love, such as bananas, it is natural for them to cry out. Then other chimps come running・ But some clever chimps learn to cry very softly when they find food. That way, other chimps don't hear them, and they don't need to share their food・

What will people die of 100 years from now? If you think that is a simple question, you have not been paying attention to the revolution that is taking place in bio-technology. With the help of new medicine, the human body will last a very long time. Death will come mainly from accidents, murder and war. Today's leading killers, such as heart disease, cancer, and aging itself, will become distant memories.
In discussion of technological changes, the Internet gets most of the attention these days- But the change in medicine can be the real technological event of our times. How long can humans live? Human brains were known to decide the final death・ Cells are the basic units of all living things, and until recently, scientists were sure th
at the life of cells could not go much beyond 120 years because the basic materials of cell, such as those of brain cells, would not last forever. But the upper limits will be broken by new medicine. Sometimes between 2050 and 2100, medicine will have advanced to the point at which every 10 years or so, people will be able to take medicine to repair their organs (The medicine, made up of the basic building materials of life, will build new brain cells, heart cells, and so on—in much the same way our bodies make new skin cells to take the place of old ones)-
It is exciting to imagine that the advance in technology may be changing the most basic condition of human existence, but many technical problems still must be cleared up on the way to this wonderful future・

A new study shows that shy preschool children are at greater academic risk than chatty and outgoing peers・ The study shows that children displaying shy and lonely behavior early in the preschool year started out with the lowest academic skills and showed the slowest gains across the year.
"Everybody wants their children to be ready for kindergarten, to know their ABCs and to be able to count, but they sometimes don't understand that having social-emotional readiness is equally important," said Dr. Rebecca -Shearer.
Behavioral problems in the classroom arise when there is a difference between the child's developmental skills and the expectations of the school environment, according to the researchers. The fin dings suggest that children who are shy in the classroom have trouble engaging in activities and learning.
The study analyzes information from 4,417 prekindergarten children in the Head Start Program, aged 3 to 5, from a diverse population, living in a large urban district of the northeast. The teachers assessed the emotional and behavioral characteristics, as well as the academic progress of each child, at three times during the preschool year・
The findings show that older kids and girls tended to be better adjusted, exhibited less behavioral problems, and had higher levels of social literacy(读写能丿J), language and math skills. “Preschool children
