Using can, could, may, and might to talk about permission (许可,允许)
1. can and could
*You can go with them if you like.
如果你愿意的话,可以和他们一块去。
*--- Can I borrow your pen ?
--- Yes, you can.(表示请求)
*You can’t borrow two books at a time. (表示不允许)
Informal: used to ask if it is OK to do something
*Could I use your bicycle ?
(表示委婉) 我可以用以下你的自行车吗?
*--Dad,could I take your camera?
--Yes, you can.
Formal :often used to ask permission from strangers, old people, teachers and bosses
2. may and might
* You may borrow any of those books on the shelves.
你可以借阅这书架上任何一本书。
*May I smoke here?
我可以在这儿抽烟吗?
Formal and polite : used in formal situations to ask if it is OK to do something
*He asked if he might have a chat with me ?

Very formal but rarely used
