The authors
D. R. Oughton after 6 years with a London based contractor, joined Oscar Faber &
Partners in 1967 as an assistant in their Belfast office. He was made an Associate in
1975; became a Partner in 1981 and, following changes in the structure of the firm,
a Director of Oscar Faber Consulting Engineers in 1983. He was awarded an MSc
(Arch) by the University of Bristol in 1979 after presentation of a research paper
dealing with energy consumption and energy targets for air-conditioned office buildings.
He served on the Council of BSRIA for 1975±87, was a member of the CIBSE
Technical mittee for 1975±85, served on the CIBSE Professional
mittee for 1992±94, served on CIBSE Council for 1995±98, was Chairman
of CIBSE Patrons for 1999 to 2001 and was elected CIBSE President Elect in May 2001.
Mr Oughton is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Chartered
Engineer, a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers and a
Member of both the Institute of Energy and the Institute of Refrigeration. He is also a
Fellow of the Association of Consulting Engineers.
S. Hodkinson joined Oscar Faber & Partners as an assistant engineer in 1976 following
4 years with a national contractor. He was awarded an honours degree in
Environmental Engineering by Loughborough University in 1975. He became a
Director in 1986 responsible for a wide variety of major projects both in the UK and
overseas. He took responsibility for Building Services Engineering in 1995 and for the
Building Engineering Division in 2000.
Mr Hodkinson is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Chartered Institution of
Building Services Engineers and a member of the Institute of Energy.
Between the preparation of the material for this edition and its publication, Oscar
Faber joined the Technology Corporation, an international multi-disciplinary
consultancy.
