Functional polymers
Functional polymer is
Polymer that bears specified chemical groups or;
Polymer that has specified physical, chemical, biological, pharmacological, or other uses which depend on specific chemical groups.
There is a difference between the words “performance” and “function”.
Generally, “performance” is the resistance of material to the external action, and the “function” means the conversion of material in quantity or quality responded to the external input signal.

电学功能材料,如导电性高分子、超导性高分子、感电了性高分子等
光学功能材料,如感光性高分子、导光性高分子、光敏性高分子等

人工脏器用材料,如人工肾、人工心肺等
高分子药用材料,如药物活性高分子、缓释性高分子药物
生物分解材料,如可降解性高分子材料等。

每年因静电事故造成的损失超过百亿美元。
普通高分子材料对电磁波的屏蔽性差,通信设备常常因电磁波的入侵造成误操作。

Conductivity of polymers
要使高分子材料导电就必须能模拟金属的行为,亦即电子必须能不受原子的束缚而能自由移动,要达到此目的的第一个条件就是这个聚合物应该具有交错的单键与双键,亦称为“共轭”双键。
为了使共轭高分子导电,必须要做掺杂。这和半导体经过参杂后提高导电度类似。
