Warning Triangles For Motor Vehicles

GB 19151-2003


1. Scope

This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, and inspection rules of
the warning triangles.
This standard applies to certain warning devices intended to be on board vehicles and to
be placed on the carriageway in order to signal, by day and at night, the presence of a
halted vehicle.

The following standards contain provisions, which, through reference in this text,
constitute provisions of this standard. At time of publication the editions indicated were
valid. All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this
standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions
of the standards indicated below.

3. Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this standard,
. "Warning triangle" means an equilateral triangle warning device intended to be on
board vehicles and to be placed on the carriageway in order to signal, by day and at night, the
presence of a halted vehicle.
. "Type of triangle" means warning triangles, which do not differ in such essential
respects as,
---- The trade name or mark;
---- The optical characteristics;
---- The distinctive geometrical and mechanical features of the design;
. "Retro-reflecting device" means an assembly, ready for use, comprising one or more
retro-reflecting optical units;
. "Front face of the triangle" means the face carrying the optical units;
. "Axis of the warning triangle" means the straight line, which, perpendicular to the front
face of the triangle, passes through its centre;
. "Fluorescent material" means a material, which, either in the mass or at the surface,
