ABSTRACT
The main achievements of the worldwide experimental activity about pool boiling in microgravity have been
summarized in the paper. A review of the main pool boiling features has been carried out, and the main effects of
gravity and other force fields have been stressed pared with the available experimental results under
microgravity conditions. The monly accepted viewpoints have been reported for each aspect. Due to the
difficulties encountered in the experimentation, the knowledge of pool boiling phenomena in microgravity is still
fragmentary; heless it appears clearly that pool boiling phenomena are less influenced by gravity than might
be expected basing on the extrapolation to low values of gravity of the models tested in terrestrial conditions. The
questions are thus shifting from the possibility to maintain pool boiling in micro-g, which is quite assessed, to the
physical mechanisms governing it, its limitations and the possibility to improve its performances. It is believed that
