② Listen to the sentences on the cassette. For the one, mark the word you hear.
听句子,勾出所听到的单词。
1. They gave her three chairs/cheers.
他们给她三把椅子/三声欢呼。
2. The bear/beer was awful.
这只熊/这啤酒太糟糕了。
3. The pear/pier is rotten.
梨/桥墩腐烂了。
4. He is rarely/really unhappy.

Alternative questions 选择疑问句
The speaker mentions two possible answers. The voice rises on the first words, as above, or longer phrases.
说话者提到两个可能答案,前一个用升调(如上例);短语较长时也用升调。

Question tags--falling 附加疑问句--降调
The speaker is certain of what he/she says. He/She expects the other person to agree with him/her. The voice falls on the question tag.

The speaker is not certain. He/She is asking for confirmation. The voice rises on the question tag.
