I remember my high school English teacher was as passionate about musicals as Ms. LUO Wei. She gave me a couple of musical VCDs, among them were “Cats”, “Les Miserables”, “Notre Dame” etc. I watched them with passion, but unfortunately I was a little too young to understand them. Except from several beautiful songs it almost left with me nothing at that time. But it didn’t reduce any of my love for musicals.
Then strongly influenced by my father, who is a very keen fan of Sarah Brightman, I fell in love with her angelic voice. It was through her music I once again stepped into the fascinating kingdom of musicals Her album “Encore”, which collected all her greatest hits throughout her cooperation with Andrew Lloyd Webber, gave me a glimpse to the romantic world of Webber. I haven’t watched any musicals of his, but I have already been seized by many of his songs.
This semester I was lucky enough to take the course “One Hundred Years of Broadway Musical”, which is my favorite course this whole semester, which gives me plete and systematic introduction and analysis of Broadway Musical and breaks my stereotype of it.
