Suppress/Hide/Delete - Overview
These are often the first line of defense for removing unwanted parts or features
Not optimal in many cases because:
Delete: totally removes the part from the assembly
Suppress: Enforces the parent/child relationships resulting in forced removal of needed parts or features or model instability
Hide: Not all features can be hidden (patterns, for example)
Additional notes on hide vs. suppress:
Using either one will result in the part not showing up in CFdesign
If we have interfering parts that have been reported:
Hiding one of the interfering parts will still result in an interference being reported, even though it won’t be in CFdesign
Suppressing the part will cause the interference not to be reported
We will find the simplified reps are a much more powerful way to plish this same task
Simplified Reps - Overview
Simplified reps are a way to remove extraneous information without “harming” the actual model
Simplified reps are the equivalent of suppressing features and freezing all of the feature’s children
When used with selection of surfaces, simplified reps can produce surface parts to be used in place of 3D geometry
Why Use Simplified Reps?
Simplified Reps provide a simplified, but still very representative, version of the actual model
Simplified reps do not encounter downstream effects from parent/child relationships
Simplified reps allow for easy removal of unwanted parts/features without the effects of suppression
Guidelines for Using Simplified Reps
Do Remove features or parts that do not affect your simulation.
Hardware: Bolts, washers, nuts, spacers, o-rings, etc
Hardware-associated Features: bolt holes, slots, etc
Do Not remove features or parts that affect your simulation.
plex internal geometry including lofts, sweeps, significant radii & chamfers, and major flow obstructions
