To map a part drawing based on an existing physical part, one may first measure its dimensions, figure out its technical requirements, and then elaborate the working drawing according to sketches from the measurement.

First, one should know the part.

1) Manufacturing defects of the part, such as sand and air holes, tool marks and
wearing, should not be drawn. 零件的制造缺陷, 如砂眼、气孔、刀痕以及长
期使用所造成的磨损都不应画出。

2) The technical structure originated from manufacturing or mounting, such as curving
of castings, chamfer, escape, dummy club and recess, should be drawn and can not
be omitted. 零件上因制造、装配的需要而形成的工艺结构,如铸造圆角、
倒角、退刀槽、凸台、凹坑等,都必须画出,不能忽略。
3) Draw only basic fitting dimensions(for example, the diameter of the fitted hole and
shaft). Its system of fits and corresponding tolerance should be determined by
consulting the manual after the analysis. 有配合关系的尺寸(如配合的孔和轴
的直径), 一般只要测出它的基本尺寸, 其配合性质和相应的公差值,应在分
析考虑后, 再查阅有关手册确定。
4) Non-fitting or unimportant dimensions are allowed to be adjusted to integers.
无配合关系的尺寸或不重要的尺寸,允许将测得的尺寸适当调整为整数。
