Basic principle
To reduce the diameter of the wire:
! the volume(mass) of the wire remainsthe length increasesthe diameter is reduced

Flow of the material
how
The deformation is done in a die
Here there is the deformation but also friction

Force
power
All used power is converted into:
90 to 95% to the deformation of the wire =
heat10 to 5% in residual stresses
A drawing machine is huge heat exchanger
Cooling is the name of the game

power
To have sufficient force to draw the wire through the die we need POWER
Power : comes from electric motor
How much power???Depends on:
Amount of deformation(= reduction or elongation) to versus to
Strength of the wireHICA (%C) versus LOCA (%C)
Speed1m/sec versus 20 m/sec
Friction in the die ( lubricant, coating die angle..)
examples
wire rod drawn to ***@2 m/secLOCA (%C )needs : HICA (%C) needs :
Wire drawn to @ 20m/secLOCA (%C) needs : HICA (%C) needs : kW
