The Emperor’s New Clothes
Once there lived an emperor who was fond of beautiful clothes. He spent all his money on being finely dressed. He changed clothes every hour and loved to show them off to his people.
Two rogues decided to take advantage of it. They came up with a plan to cheat the emperor. They went to the palace and were presented to the emperor.
“Your Highness! We are the world’s most famous tailors. We can weave cloth so beautiful that no one has ever seen before!” said one rogue. “And the cloth has magic powers. Only those who are clever enough can see it,” said the other rogue.
The emperor believed every word they said. He couldn’t wait to see his new clothes made from this magic cloth.
The two rogues were brought to a room where two looms were already set for them. They asked for the finest silk and the purest gold, all of which they hid away, continuing to work on the empty looms, often late into the night.
The day came when the emperor was going to try on his new clothes.
“My Highness, try on the suit we made for you,” said one rogue.
“Look at the brilliant colors. It suits you perfectly! Do you like it?” said the other rogue.
All the ministers there pretended that they could see it. They said, ”Yes, it’s so beautiful! It suits you perfectly.”
