Mapped meshing
Boundary Sensitive: mesh contours closely follow countours of geometry boundaries
Orientation Insensitive: mesh in transformed geometry is equivalent to mesh in original geometry
Few Irregular nodes: most nodes connected to 4 elements. Especially near boundary

Paving Technique in CAE
Layering geometry with rows of quad elements from boundary toward interior
fast, robust, handle mesh transitions from small to large elements elegantly. Suitable for optimal mesh generation algorithms.
Paving technique has been essfully used plex surface meshing including trimmed surfaces of all types (incl. nurbs)

Paving Theory-Terminology
Closed loops of connected nodes form boundaries of region to be meshed
Exterior Permanent Boundaries - ordered counterclockwise. Interior Permanent Boundaries - ordered clockwise
Paving boundaries bound existing mesh. Exterior and Interior paving boundaries.

Nodes classified as paving node, fixed node, floating node
Every paving boundary node has an interior angle (alpha - using previous and next nodes). Must have even number of nodes
Size of elements controlled by spacing of nodes on boundaries. Initially permanent boundaries define mesh size.
