1、desperate adj. 绝望的,不顾一切的,极其想要的
◆The situation is desperate.
情况令人感到绝望。
与hopeless相比,desperate的语气要轻些。
◆The situation was desperate but not hopeless.
这个情形是令人绝望的,但也不全无希望。
desperate后可接不定式,表示“发疯似的想要”。
◆When the war was over, Tom was desperate to return to civilian ,汤姆发疯似的想要回到平民的生活。
*be desperate at…属于固定搭配,表示“因……而绝望”。
