Market Review
The retail market in Beijing maintained a healthy growth in the first half of
2005. The cumulative sales of consumer goods between January and
May reached billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of %.
Beijing's fast growing retail market continues to act as a backdrop for
the retail property market.
New supply was stable in the first half of 2005. To increase their market
share, domestic and foreign supermarkets and convenient stores
continue to expand into different areas of Beijing. As for shopping
centers, no significant new supply was seen after Golden Resources
Shopping Mall entered the market as the world's largest shopping center
last year.
Since Beijing fully opened its market to foreign retailers last year
according to the WTO agreement, rentals for projects that operate
essfully have risen. Owing to the continual increase in personal

e of Beijing residents and the 2008 Olympics, retailers are
optimistic about the retail market in Beijing, many of which have
increased their investments in Beijing.
