Modifying Serial Ports
To modify serial port configurations, perform the following steps:
1. As the root, log in to the window environment .
2. Invoke Admintool as superuser.
# admintool &
3. Choose Serial Ports from the Browse menu of the Admintool:

4. Select an entry from the Port column.
5. Choose Modify from the Edit menu.

Basic Detail Mode
The basic mode of the Admintool: Modify Serial Port window

The Basic mode includes the following fields:
Detail: The default mode is Basic. The More and Expert modes
each show more configuration data and options.
Port: The port selected in the Admintool: Serial Port main window.
Service Enable: The service for the specified port is enabled
Baud Rate: The line speed used municate with the
device.
Terminal: The terminal type as it might be listed in the
/etc/termcap file.

6. Click on Template.
Template menu (Figure 6-4) is used to specify the type of physical device

Terminal – Hardwire When this option is selected, you can attach a
terminal to your system. This is the default option.
Modem – Dial In Only users can dial into the modem but cannot dial out.
Modem – Dial Out Only users can dial out from the modem but cannot
dial in.
Modem – Bidirectional users can either dial in or out from the modem.
Initialize Only – No Connection port software is initialized, but not
configured.

7. Click on the More selection for Detail.

Additional configuration parameters displayed include:
Initialize Only The port software is initialized, but not configured.
Bidirectional The port line is used in both directions.
Software Carrier The software carrier detection feature is used.
Login Prompt The prompt is displayed after the connection is made.
