Abstract: - Problem Based Learning (PBL) is widely used in many disciplines like engineering, law, social sciences etc. In engineering education all types of engineering knowledge required by engineers to solve the real life design problems are not addressed. It is possible to address all types of engineering knowledge while using PBL for design course in engineering education. This paper presents a guideline to address Vincenti categories of engineering knowledge in standard design steps used in control system design.
Key – Words: - PBL, Engineering knowledge
1 Introduction:
PBL is an instructional method based on the principle of using problems as vehicles for the acquisition and integration of new knowledge [1]. When problems are posed at the start of acquisition of new knowledge, learners recognize the need for new knowledge. Thus problems act as motivators to learn. PBL further facilitates acquisition of knowledge related to new concepts in real life context, skills like scientific reasoning, critical appraisal, information literacy, and the skills of self-directed, life-long learning, and attitudinal skills like - value of teamwork, interpe
