This course covers the principles and theory of systems and requirements engineering.  The course consists of lectures, readings, problem solving, and case studies. The goal of the course is to introduce the student to the processes and techniques used to evaluate opportunities and prepare industrial strength software requirements. Students earn their grade individually. There is no ‘curve;’ all students who do excellent work can earn an ‘A.’ Teamwork and cooperation are encouraged, except on exams. Quantitative analysis is mandatory. This is not an essay course. Problem solving is expected. The engineering of systems and software engineering demands trade-off analysis.
Case studies will be used throughout the semester to illustrate opportunity analysis, customer value proposition, and requirements modeling and analysis. Students will prepare business case and requirements specifications related to the case studies. . The students will prepare a Concept of Operations document and a Software Requirements Specification for the cases.
Class attendance is critical to gathering information needed plete the project essfully. Please let me know by email (******@) if you need to miss class for any reason.
