ETHICS OF CREATING SOLAR POWER SOURCES IN DESERTS TO SOLVE ENERGY PROBLEMS AND IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH

The Alternative energy Crisis and the Ethics Behind the Problem
During the Nation Grand Challenges Summit, the National Academy of Engineering discussed and came up with 14 grand challenges that engineers must focus on in ing years [7]. During the 21st century, the entire world is faced with the same problem. This problem is energy. Energy is just one of the 14 NAE grand challenges, and it is a very important one. Over 75% of the energy we use es from fossil fuels [1]. The trouble with this is that fossil fuels are running out and will soon no longer be available to use as our main energy source. As a result of this, scientists and engineers need e up with a better source of energy that can efficiently power much of the world’s needs. For many years, research has been done to try and improve the efficiency of solar energy. One way to do this is to utilize as many of our valuable resources as possible. The sunlight that shines on the Sahara desert in six hours gives off the same amount of energy the world uses in one year [3]. There is so much vacant land in the desert, which is occupied by nothing and could have so much value in solving our energy crisis. The solar solution to this major problem involves utilizing both t
