Abstract
Hero worship exists almost in every type of culture. Heroism, result of hero worship, represents special social cultural pursuit of a culture and to some extent influences the development of a society. However, the definition of the social value of heroism differs with cultures. In the year 1998, Walt Disney adapted the Chinese theme cartoon Mulan which won a high box office worldwide. Later in the year 2009, China released her own movie Mulan which also captured audience's heart. These two movies, which were made the same time and same theme, have provided important information for the parative study. In this thesis, the similarities and differences of heroism in both American and Chinese movies will be discussed in detail and the origins and cultural backgrounds of heroism in both cultures will be analyzed, too.

摘要
英雄崇拜在每种文化中都存在,英雄主义在某种特定的文化中代表了特殊的社会文化追求,并在一定程度上影响着社会的发展。但不同文化中对英雄主义的定义却不同。1998年6月,迪斯尼改编中国题材的卡通片《花木兰》在全球各地上映后票房大捷,2009年11月中国也推出了自己的《花木兰》,同样票房不俗。中美两国在同一时期对同一题材进行拍摄为文化比较研究提供了难得的素材。本文将分析两部《花木兰》表现出的异同点以及各自的英雄主义,并讨论两种文化中英雄主义产生的根源、文化背景以及不同的影响。
