Abstract
Existing principles of translation are rarely applicable to Chinese-English business translation. All too often, therefore, business translation--indispensable to China's economic development--has hardly any principles to follow. The article takes the lead in addressing this problem. With examples taken from Chinese-English business translations, the author puts forward the view that the major principle of business translation should be "faithfulness, exactness and consistency." In explicating this point, the author stresses that the special features of business English account for the variability of translation principles.
