予性好高,好高则倨傲而不能下。然所不能下者,不能下彼一等倚势仗富之人耳。否则稍有片长寸善,虽隶卒人奴,无不拜也。予性好洁,好洁则狷隘不能容。然所不能容者,不能容彼一等趋势谄富之人耳。否则果有片善寸长,纵身为大人王公,无不宾也。能下人,故心虚;其心虚,故所取广;所取广,故其人愈高。然则言天下之能下人者,固言天下之极好高人者也。予之好高,不亦宜乎!能取人,必无遗人;无遗人,则无人不容;无人不容,则无不洁之行矣。然则言天下之能容者,固言天下之极好洁人者也。予之好洁,不亦宜乎!
