The Linguistic Environment for
Second Language Acquisition¹
— Interaction for prehensible Input

摘要:The dissertation focuses on the classroom linguistic environment for SLA. The
discussion on the view that interaction is an effective way of creating an optimal linguistic environment
for SLA in class by providing prehensible input will be presented from a stage of theory to its
application. First, the dissertation will demonstrate three important theories: the input hypothesis, the
interaction hypothesis and the output hypothesis, and their relationships as well. Then is the discussion
on the functions of classroom interaction and its application in English classes. The point throughout
the dissertation is that classroom interaction offers a stage, on which prehensible input and the
comprehensible output, the two indispensable elements of the linguistic environment, co-operating
perform effectively for SLA.

The purpose of the dissertation
The increasing interest in the development of interlanguage2 (IL) has drawn much attention to
every aspect concerned with students’ second language acquisition (SLA). Researchers in language
teaching have done various studies in SLA. Though focusing on different aspects or holding different
views in a certain aspect, all these researchers endeavor to work out an optimal way of developing SLA
either by studying the process of the first language acquisition, which can give some hints about SLA,
or by taking into consideration the external and internal fa
