Little Red Riding Hood in stories
People might be quite familiar with a little girl with a red hood in Charles Perrault’s story. The
little girl is asked to send some food and drinks to her grandmother who is living in the forest
alone. While she is crossing the forest, a wolf sees her and wants to have her as a meal. es
to her and asks where she is heading for. The little girl does not know how dangerous it would be
to talk to a stranger and tells the wolf that she is going to the other side of the forest to visit her
grandmother. The wolf plays a trick on her, going straightly to her grandmother, and eats her first.
When Little Red Riding Hood arrives, he eats the little girl and finishes his meal.
One might also be familiar with another version by Brothers Grimm, Jacob Ludwig Carl and
Wilhelm Carl. He little girl is lucky enough to meet a hunter who is longing for killing the wolf. In
the very moment that the wolf is about to eat her, the es to save her and her
grandmother.
In 1997, Angela Carter retranslated Perrault’s fairy tales into a modern version for
contemporary readers, including The Snow Child , Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood etc.
