Abstract: As English learning heat is on the increase all over China, some people raise doubts
about the e of the aggressive move, pointing out that the embarrassing situation, “dumb
English”, results from our traditional English education system, in other words, “sheep-style” education.
In order to get to the root and address the confronting problem, the author of the article thinks that
priority should be given to the primary stage of education, since it plays a significant role in the
foundation for higher level education. This article is to draw parison between “sheep-style”
education and “wolf-style” education and probe into whether young learners should be turned into
“wolves” from “sheep” at the start of English learning process.

内学术界对此已有不少讨论。在该篇论文中,扬玉媚独辟蹊径,将“哑巴英语”归咎于小学填鸭
式的教育方式,将小学生培养成听话的小绵羊。她从深圳市学府小学前狼群雕塑谈起,主张在小
学教学中注重培养学生象狼那样的合作、竞争与进去精神。尽管她的论述尚有片面之处,但论文
视角新颖,观点鲜明,条理清晰,具有一定的创新性。(点评教师:刘毅教授)

Introduction:
Xuefu Primary School of Shenzhen set up a sculpture named Departure in July, 2004, which has
drawn nation-wide attention. The sculpture consists of a group of wolves under a wolf leader’s
direction. They are full of energy, ready to
