A Study on the Use of Formulaic Language in English Writing by College Students

摘要
本文是一篇关于程式化语言在大学生英语写作中使用情况的调查研究。许多研究已经表明
英语语言的“板块”性(即词汇短语、搭配、词块等)与语言综合能力及具体语言技能之间均具
有显著的相关性,但是,研究者对于学生程式化知识的实际使用情况的思考却很少。
写作是一项重要的语言输出技能,也是大学英语教学的重要组成部分。大学生写作中存在
三类最常见的程式化语言:短语,固定搭配和句子框架型结构。本研究分三阶段进行。第一阶
段作者以200名非英语专业大一学生为研究对象,通过写作,测试和调查问卷方式,分析了程式
化语言的使用特点、存在问题,并调查了学生的学习方法以及对教学的建议。第二阶段作者进
行了一项为期18周的教学实验并提出一系列教学策略。第三阶段作者基于以上研究提出假设:
在英语教学中加强程式化语言教学能够提高大学生写作中的程式化知识并使用SPSS
究结果进行了分析验证。
研究结果表明,大学生在英语写作中使用了大量的程式化语言,但他们的使用存在着许多
问题,主要原因是缺乏足够的注意和练忆方式,缺乏学习动机
以及语言输出机会。在教学实验基础上,作者提出课堂环境下程式化语言教学模式图并对实验
前后数据进行对比分析,证明了假设可行性。
该研究调查了大学生英语写作中程式化语言的实际使用情况,希望为大学生程式化知识的
学习及提高英语写作能力做出一定的贡献。

Abstract
This paper is a study on the use of formulaic language in college students’ English writing. Many
researches have already proved formulaicity of English (lexical phrases, collocations, chunks, etc.)
presents remarkable correlation with integrated petence and specific language skills.
However, there are few researches on students’ practical use of formulaic knowledge.
Writing is an important output skill and an indispensable part of college English education. A
mand of formulaic language greatly improves accuracy, fluency and idiomaticity of writing.
In college students’ writing, three categories of formulaic language are identified, namely, phrases,
collocations and sentence builders. This study consists of three phases. Based on 200 non-English
majors, in the first phase the researcher,employing a writing test, test papers and a questionnaire,
attempted to find out the characteristics and problems. The learners’ learning methods and suggestions
