词汇教学法对大学生英语写作能力影响的实证研究

摘要

写作作为一项产出性技能在英语教学中的重要地位毋庸质疑。近几十年来我总体上有了很大的提高,但写作能力一直不尽如人意。研究表明,缺乏有效的教学
方法是导致大学生写作能力薄弱的主要原因。
自从语言学家 Michael Lewis 提出词汇法以来,此方法一致被认为是解决目前英语教学
中所存在问题的关键。本研究通过将词汇法应用于精读课教学,力求探讨词汇法对大学生英
语写作能力产生的影响及其原因,从而为提高大学生的写作能力提供参考。
笔者对任课的南京航空航天大学金城学院一级起点的两个自然班级进行了一个学期的
教学实验。实验班采用词汇法组织教学,而控制班采用传统的教学方法进行教学。学期开始
时,笔者对两个班分别进行了写作能力测试,前测的写作成绩表明两个班写作能力相当。学
期末,两班分别参加了写作能力测试。笔者通过对比他们的实验后写作成绩,发现两班的实
验后写作能力存在显著性差异,且实验班成绩优于控制班。由于两组受试者是在各种条件基
本相同而教学方法不同的情况下接受实验的,因此从实验结果可知,实验班写作能力的提高
源于词汇法。为进一步探讨词汇法对写作产生积极影响的原因,笔者试着比较两班所用的词
块数量、准确性以及语法性。结果表明,经过一个学期的学习,实验班所用词块数量和准确
性均明显高于控制班;而在语法性方面,两个班没有明显差异。
最后,作者总结了本研究的主要发现以及对英语写作教学的启示,同时也分析了实验存
在的一些不足,并对进一步研究提出了一些建议。

ABSTRACT

There is no denying that writing assumes an important role in English learning and teaching.
But Chinese college students’ English writing performance has been far from satisfactory for
decades although their overall English performance has got improved, especially their listening
and speaking abilities. Based on the major findings published in authoritative journals in the field
of writing, the absence of an appropriate teaching approach should be to blame.
Luckily, since the introduction of the Lexical Approach by Michael Lewis, this new teaching
approach has been hailed as a good solution to a cluster of problems in English language teaching.
This research is intended to explore the effects that the Lexical Approach can produce on college
students’ English writing performance, and at the same time, to analyze the causes of the possible
effects when the Lexical Approach is applied to the course of intensive reading. It is hoped that the
present study will provide suggestions for language teachers to improve college students’ English
writing performance.
