一般过去时表示在过去的某一时刻或某一段时间内发生的动作或情况。另外也可表示过去经常干某事。
一般过去时的谓语动词由两类构成:
be(was/were) 和实义动词的过去式(studied/ talked/ got)构成
I was a student ten years ago.
She was thirteen last year.
The man was in Shanghai in 1989.
We were in Grade One last year.
1. 由be(was/were) 构成的句子：
① 肯定句:主语+ was/were + 其它
注意: was 用于第一人称I和第三人称单数
I/He/She/Mary/It/The bird was...
I was a student ten years ago.→
Were you a student ten years ago?
Yes, I was. No, I wasn’t.
They were in Grade One last year.
Were they in Grade One last year?
Yes, they were. No, they weren’t.
② 一般疑问句：Was/were+ 主语+ 其它
Yes, 主语+ was/were.
No, 主语+ wasn’t/weren’t.
I wasn’t a student ten years ago.
She wasn’t thirteen last year.
The man wasn’t in Shanghai in 1989.
We weren’t in Grade One last year.
③ 否定句: 主语+ wasn’t/ weren’t + 其它
注意：was not=wasn’t were not = weren’t
He helped the old man clean the room.
I wanted you to play basketball yesterday.
We saw a plane in the sky just now.
The young man went to the movies last week.
2. 由实义动词过去式构成的句子:

①肯定句: 主语+ 动词过去式+ 其它
注意：句子无人称变化
He helped the old man clean the room.
Did he help the old man clean the room?
Yes, he did. No, he didn’t.
I wanted you to play basketball yesterday.
Did you want me to play basketball yesterday?
Yes, I did. No, I didn’t.
