一、对环境条件的要求
1、温度
不耐寒，属于喜温植物。
种子发芽最适温度25-27℃，5-6天可出齐芽。在15℃时发芽约需15天。出芽后，耐低温的能力逐渐增强。
幼苗期最适生长温度20℃，能保证幼苗健壮生长。
开花期最适温度为15--20℃。低于10℃难于授粉，易引起落花落果；高于35℃发育不全，易落花。
果实成熟期适宜温度在25℃以上。

2、光照
性喜阳光。对光照的要求因生育期而不同。
种子在黑暗条件下容易发芽。
幼苗生长的时期则需要良好的光照条件。光照充足，幼苗节间短粗，叶厚色深，适应性强，有利于生长发育，结果多。光照不足，幼苗节间伸长，叶薄色淡，适应性差，植株不会开花；
总之，在室内置于南窗前，温度适宜，营养条件良好，一般都能进行花芽分化、开花和结果。

3、水分
五彩椒在各生育期的需水量不同。
种子发芽期：需要吸收水分。因为种皮较厚，吸水较慢。 最好进行浸种、催芽，可以促进发芽。
幼苗期：为保壮苗，要控制浇水。
初花期：植株生长量增大，需水逐渐增加，特别是果实膨大期应保持盆土潮润，不然果色无光泽。
注意：要防止盆内积水，否则造成落叶，落花、落果。

浇水的原则：
浇水时间：
夏天应在早晨或傍晚浇水，不能在中午浇水。冬季应选择天气好的上午或中午。
“见干见湿”，不干不浇，浇要浇透。

水质：
雨水最理想，其次为河水、井水和池塘水。自来水要晾一天再用，使水中氯气充分挥发。 从节约水资源的角度来讲，最好用我们生活中的废水，如：淘米水、养鱼水、洗菜水。
注意：不要浇洗衣物的剩下的水。
