Grant Programme Area: Caring for Carers React's work includes the provision of essential everyday items which will assist families who are struggling with the added cost of caring for a terminally ill child at home. Due to plex and demanding nature of life-shortening illnesses, the majority of families who contact React are full time carers, living on low es or state benefits. It is estimated that the cost of caring for a disabled child is three times that of a 'healthy' sibling. Many carer families are unable to afford basic items. Kent based charities refer financially disadvantaged Kent families with seriously ill children to React where a Trustee is available at all times to authorise emergency requests. For many families a broken appliance can be a relatively minor problem, however, for a carer family, particularly those acting as sole carers, the lack of a single domestic item can directly impact their life in a number of ways. The need for new items can often place families in debt. Physically, a lack of kitchen appliances or other essential items such as a bed, can be detrimental to the family's health. The inability to provide suitable care for the familycan result
