It was one o’clock and I was hungry. I found a place, seated myself, and reached for the menu. The man sitting at the other side of the table rose.
“Sir,” said he, “do you wish to force me to share the same table with you?”
“No,” said I, “I wish to eat.”
“Do you understand, sir, that this is social equality?”
“Nothing of the sort, sir, I’m hungry ___ and I want to eat.”

1. I found a place, seated myself, and reached for the menu.
1) seat:
a. (v.) seat somebody somewhere means to sit down somewhere
. He waved towards a chair, and seated himself at the desk.
b. (n.) a place for sitting .
Won’t you take a seat?
The back seat of his small car is only enough for two persons.
seat and sit
Sit is usually used as an intransitive verb; so it doesn’t take an object and cannot be used in the passive voice:
. Please sit down. (= Please be seated.)
If you cannot find a seat, you’ll have to sit on the floor.

2) reach: can be used both as a verb and a noun
a. get to (v.) .
When the taxi reached pany, he shouted at the driver and jumped off immediately.
It’s reported that the population of this city could reach1,000,000 next year.
b. stretch (v.) .
Judy reached into her handbag and handed me a small printed leaflet.
I reached across the table and squeezed his hand.
c. contact (v.)sb. (by telephone) .
Has the doctor told you how to reach him or her in emergencies?
If I see her, I’ll tell her you’ve been trying to reach her.
d. someone’s or something’s reach: the distance or limit to which they can stretch, extend, or travel. .
The mother placed a toy on the table within the little boy’s reach.
e. If a place or thing is within reach, it is possible to have it or get to it because of its position or price. .
These products are normally bought and stored carefully out of reach of children.
The price is ten times what it normally is and totally beyond the reach of ordinary people.
