Background Information about Olympic Games
The first Olympic Games were held at a place called Olympia in ancient Greece (until 393 AD).
There have been two Olympic eras– ancient and modern. The modern era began in 1896. And each Summer Games last about two weeks.
In Olympic Games we often see the Olympic flag rising and there are five circles on the flag. They stand for the five continents. Each circle is a different color – blue,red, yellow and green (all are against a white background). Every national flag in the world contains one or more of these six colors.

Background Information about Olympic Games
At the Opening Ceremony, we can see a huge display of song, dance and music by people from the host country; we can see the flame lit and we can hear one athlete take an oath. And at last the host country’s monarch or political leader officially announces the opening of the Olympic Games.
The motto of the Olympics is “ Citius, altius, fortius” which Latin for “ Faster, higher , stronger.”
