1. immigrant: a person es as a settler (to/into another country), not as a tourist or visitor 移居另一国者,移民
Background knowledge: The United States has received more immigrants than any other country in the it’s a country with immigrants from Europe, Africa, Latin America and China, etc. So it is likened to a “melting pot”(熔炉). It means that as immigrants from different regions and e to live in the United States , their old ways melt away and they e part of a new culture.
