CAO XUEQIN (1715-1763) was born in a family which three generations held the office of Commissioner of Imperial Textiles in Nanking, a family so wealthy that they were able to entertain the Emperor Kangxi four times. But calamity overtook them and their property was confiscated. Cao Xuegin was living in poverty near Peking when he wrote his famous novel The Story of the Stone (also known as The Dream of the Red Chamber), of which this is the second volume.

曹雪芹（1715-1763或1724-1764）大约生活在康熙末至乾隆中叶，满族正白旗人。清代小说家，名沾，字梦阮，号雪芹、芹圃、芹溪。他的先世原是汉人，祖籍是河北丰润县，后移居辽宁铁岭，大约在明末被编入满洲籍，身份是“包衣”(家奴)。一般认为是中国长篇名著《红楼梦》的作者。他出身于一个“百年望族”的大官僚地主家庭，从曾祖父起三代世袭江宁织造一职达六十年之久。后来父亲因事受株连，被革职抄家，家庭的衰败使曹雪芹饱尝了人生的辛酸。他在人生的最后几十年里，以坚韧不拔的毅力，历经十年创作了《红楼梦》并专心致志地做着修订工作，死后遗留下《红楼梦》前八十回的稿子。 《红楼梦》内容丰富、情节曲折、思想认识深刻、艺术手法精湛，是中国古典小说中伟大的现实主义作品

At the background of Jia,Shi, Wang, Xue four families , story is by Jia Baoyu, Lin Daiyu love as the center. In the feudal society (封建社会), their views about free marriage ,eventually lost to the feudal a result, Lin Daiyu drops the last tear for her love ,then dead; Jia Baoyu, leave home to be a monk; Xue Baochai, married Jia Baoyu, but she never really win love, loneliness accompany all her life.
