As scenes long e to mind, my eyes fall again on the splash of white, and my heart aches for home. 翁显良译(一)标题英语是重形合的语言;而汉语则是重意合、综合性的直感语言。在古汉语中一字多义的现象比现代汉语还普遍。如“静夜思”,是“静”下来再思,还是“静静的夜”才思; “思”有可能是思考或思索之意,但这里的“思”, 根据诗义应是思念、思乡。李白写《静夜思》时,正是诗人对时局之***,痛心疾首,对人民之疾苦,忧心如焚, 他心中始终是愤闷忧郁而难以平静的。只有静静的夜晚, 当尘世的喧嚣暂归宁静,且皓月当空之时,才勾起了疾恶如仇的诗人的思绪。因此,以“静静的夜”来译是符合诗人心境的。其中译文“Homesickness atthe Tranquil Night ”于义于景都合乎诗人本意,可视为佳译。而译文七“Moonlit Night ”, “The Moon Shines everywhere ”只体现“月”,或如译文四“ATranquil Night ”和译文八“Night Thoughts ”的“夜思”,均难以达到原诗的意境。(二)译者由于不同译者受不同历史、地理、宗教、文化等因素的影响,译文也存在诸多差异。稍加比较即可看出,外国人对原诗的理解逊于中国人,或进行了编译。而 Fletcher 则错译成“On her clear face I gaze with lifted eyes: Then hide them full of You this sweet memories (合眼静思年青时光甜蜜回忆)”; 等等。因此, 外译汉诗者必须先深入了解作品的历史时期、诗人的历史地位以及诗人的风格内涵等, 再研读原作, 才可能译好作品。
