COURSE REPORT FOR FLUID MECHNICS AND HEAT TRANSFER
A review of shell-and-tube heat exchanger and heat pipes
Abstract
This paper presents a review of shell-and-tube heat exchanger, which monly used in the chemical industry, and describes two types of baffles including segmental baffles and disc-and-doughnut baffles with which the shell-and-tubes are widely developed. Finally, a highly-effective heat transfer element, heat pipes are also introduced.

Introduction of the developments in shell-and-tube heat exchangers
The market of heat exchangers is increasing continuously because of the necessity of energy saving, their multiple using and the current ing of the economic crisis in the chemical industry. [1]The most widely used basic type of heat exchanger in industry is the shell-and-tube type, because of its relatively simple construction and multi-purpose application possibilities for gaseous and fluid media in a very large temperature and pressure range. The shell-and-tube heat exchanger offers flexibility in mechanical features to meet almost any service requirement. It is widely used in process, power production, chemical and food industries, electronics, environment engineering, waste heat recovery, manufacture industry air-conditioning, refrigeration and space
