On College Students Taking Part-time Jobs
Nowadays it
has become fashionable
for college students to take a
part-time job
in
their
spare
time.
In
my opinion,
this
trend
has both
advantages
and disadvantages.
As we know,
present-day college education is
no longer free
as
it
was a decade ago.
The students
need to
pay a large
sum of tuition.
Some students
come from poor
rural
areas
while
some others,
through
from
cities,
live under
economic
pressure because
their
parents are
poorly
paid
or even laid
off
.
By working
part-time,
those
students
with poor family background can more or less relieve the burden on their family.
In addition,
taking
a part-time
job
can help
the students
know the
society,
develop
their working ability, learn to cooperate with others, and so on.
However, doing a part-time job can also do harm to the students. For example, some
of them may find
it
hard
to concentrate
on their
study
when they
come back from
their
work. Even worse, some working students give priority to the part-time job.
In sum, doing part-time
jobs has both
merits
and demerits
for
the college
students.
